Verlane Desgrange

South Fork Saddle Shop
Cody, WY

Much of Verlane’s work is inspired by historical items, most of which were used around horses. She has been moving in the direction of coloring her carved patterns, as leather was one of mankind’s first portable painting grounds. All of her work featured here is colored in varying amounts.

Ladies Astride Saddle

Inspired by an actual historical model, this saddle is built on a traditional rawhide covered tree with semi-QH bars. The seat is 14" long, a size suited to most women. The seat is padded white buckskin. The rigging is 3/4 single with stainless steel hardware for strength. All remaining hardware is solid brass and hand engraved. The saddlebags have Angora goat flaps.

.Carved Shoulder Bag

Hand colored and carved leather with
sterling silver ornament.

Clutch Bag

Hand colored and carved leather with antique brass closure.

Women's Belt with Purse

A narrow version of the women's bronc belt designed for women bronco riders in the early 20th century. The whole unit is hand colored in muted tones and all the hardware is solid brass, just as it would have been a century ago.
